The 2027 FaceBase Community Forum will be held Tuesday, April 27 and Wednesday, April 28, 2027, in Los Angeles, CA.
We’ll be hosted at USC’s Information Sciences Institute in Marina del Rey, right on the water, with the option to join remotely via Zoom for those who can’t travel.
Tuesday will be a full day of programming; Wednesday will be a half day.
This gathering brings together dental, oral, and craniofacial (DOC) researchers, clinicians, and students, as well as those studying related biological systems (such as the ear and hearing research community). An agenda, registration, and travel details will be announced in the coming months. Check back here or follow the link below for updates.
Program Themes (tentative)
We're currently developing the program around the following themes. These are still taking shape, and we welcome your input as they develop.
Clinical data: integration, reuse, and impact
How clinical data can integrate with electronic medical records, metadata and common data element frameworks, and the consent and access models that make reuse possible. This theme will include progress from the TMD IMPACT program.
Resources that serve both basic research and the clinic
Where resources built for basic research have answered clinical questions, and where clinical data has fed back into basic understanding. Topics may span craniofacial development, head and neck cancer, inner ear development and hearing loss, and the atlases and model organism data that connect discovery to the clinic.
Data reuse, transparency, and reproducibility
Data collected for one purpose answering a different question. Sessions will look at reuse across imaging, model organism, and clinical datasets, at synthetic data as a route to sharing, and at how shared repositories support reproducible research.
Multimodal methods and interoperability
Computational approaches to shape and image data, segmentation and image analysis, and multimodal methods across data types, along with how FaceBase connects to partner resources and NIH data initiatives. This theme will include work from EarBase, our resource for the ear and hearing research community.
Demonstrations and short talks
We're planning demonstration sessions of FaceBase tools and resources, including the latest version of our AI assistant, which we previewed in beta at the 2026 Forum. We'll also have short talks for recent and late-breaking results. Details on the call for abstracts will follow.
