Release Notes

EarBase contains otologic and histopathologic data from temporal bone specimens received from thousands of human donors over several decades. The data include clinical and demographic data on each case, and high-resolution scans of H&E-stained sections of the temporal bone.

New content and tools are continuously being added to EarBase as laboratories populate their Datasets and conduct new studies. Check back regularly for updates and new content.

Projects and Datasets: 4 Projects containing 5 Datasets are listed in the initial release of EarBase.

Cases: Demographic and clinical data from 3,027 Cases (donors) are currently listed. Additional Cases are added as they are uploaded. Many cases contain detailed donor information. Others remain to be populated, but data may be available by direct request — see Contact Us.

Specimens: Histopathology was conducted for the majority of temporal bone specimens included in EarBase (usually left and right sides). Written descriptions of the histopathological findings accompany many Cases, and remains ongoing.

Images: 86,861 H&E images have been uploaded for 3,027 Cases.

Audiometric data: Audiograms are not yet uploaded for the majority of cases. These will be loaded into their respective Cases over time. Case descriptions often contain written summaries of audiometric and vestibular test results.

Upcoming

Audiogram tool: The majority of audiograms in the Case records are graphical image files. An Audiogram Tool is being developed to permit manual and automated entry of tabular audiometric data for graphical display and export.
